What are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are a popular service that lengthens and thickens your natural eyelashes. Single, curved strands of synthetic eyelashes are individually applied to each natural lash one by one for a natural, beautiful and luscious look. With proper application, the look and feel is completely natural looking. Eyelash extensions are perfect for special occasions or for everyday wear.

How often should I come in for lash refills?

We recommend coming in every 2 to 3 weeks for lash refills and maintenance. Our natural eyelashes fall off every 45-60 days (~ 2 to 5 lashes per day) due to the lash growth cycle. Other factors such as exposure to steam, facial products, active lifestyle or touching our eyes a lot may also contribute to the extensions falling out sooner. In addition, grown out lashes will also need to be removed and replaced to keep your lashes aesthetically pleasing.

Classics, Hybrid, Volume & Mega Volume

Classic lashes were the first original method of one synthetic lash glued to one natural lash. This is the most natural set that gives length but not as much volume. Classic extensions offers a soft, natural-looking, even last line that opens up the eye.

Hybrid lashes are generally a 50-50 mix of classic and volume lashes. They offer a variety of texture and more volume than classic alone, but without as much density as full volume. This technique will provide the perfect balance for clients that want the best of both classic and volume lashes.

Volume lashes require an advanced technique that boosts coverage and provides a soft voluminous look. This application requires a master skill using the lightest weight synthetic extensions to create hand-made fans and meticulously applying them to every individual natural lash. If you are looking for soft, fluffy, full lashes then Volume extensions will be perfect for you.

Mega Volume lashes give the darkest, most dense look we offer. Lusciously fluffy & soft, we use larger volume fans created by using finer, light-weight lashes to maximize the lash line’s thickness and fullness. Because mega volume extensions are so dense, they necessitate even more diligent aftercare since dust and natural oils get trapped inside the lashes more easily.

Bottom Lashes are generally thinner and shorter than upper lashes, and so are their extensions. The extra length and definition offered by bottom lashes can help open up a person’s eyes, making them seem even larger and more dramatic.

Traditional vs LED/UV Adhesives

When it comes to lash extensions, the choice of adhesive can make a significant difference in the results. Traditional lash extension adhesives typically require a longer drying time and can sometimes have a stronger smell due to the presence of certain chemicals. They are also susceptible to a variety of elements - temperature, humidity, sweat, oils - resulting in poorer retention.

LED/UV lash adhesives contain photoinitiators that are activated when exposed to the LED/UV light source. These photoinitiators start a chain reaction that causes the glue to harden and bond the lashes together. This curing process was formulated to be relatively quick and efficient, as the light helps to speed up the chemical reaction in the glue, reducing application and exposure time. Additionally, LED/UV adhesives only contain a fraction of the sensitizing ingredient cyanoacrylate, often responsible for allergies in traditional lash glues, making it odorless or a milder scent enhancing the overall experience for both the client and the technician.

Traditional lash adhesives rely on a different mechanism for curing. The main, active ingredient is cyanoacrylate, a type of adhesive that cures when it reacts with the moisture/humidity in the air. The curing process for traditional lash glues tends to be more difficult to control compared to LED/UV glues since it relies on the moisture/humidity in the air for the chemical reaction to occur.

LED/UV lash adhesives are formulated to be both safe and durable, providing several advantages over traditional lash adhesives. They are designed to cure almost instantly under a very low LED/UV light, formulated to minimize any potential risks, for specific use in the delicate eye area, reducing the potential for irritation or allergic reactions during application. Additionally, the bond created by LED/UV adhesives tends to be stronger and longer-lasting compared to traditional adhesives, resulting in better retention for lash extensions. The precise control over the curing process also contributes to a more consistent and reliable application, making LED/UV lash adhesives a preferred choice for both technicians and clients seeking a safe and effective lash extension experience

At Pretty Esthetics Beauty Bar, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our clients above all else. When it comes to using LED/UV lash lights and adhesives around the eyes, it is essential that we always exercise caution and adhere to best practices to ensure the safest application.
